The enigmatic Desola Oluwakemi Mako, owner of deemako.com where she uploads photos of her daily outfits, is certainly one of the best. Though, a practicing architect, Desola’s monstrous love and passion for fashion is undeniable. Always full of youthful energy, life and vitality, she is trying to live her dream through blogging.
St. Eve Magazine caught up with her recently and had her talking about her first love – fashion!
St.Eve Magazine: What/Who inspired the creation of deemako.com and what motivates you to keep going during the good and bad times?
Dee Mako: I would say it started from passion. I have always been passionate about fashion, I have designed collections, worked as a stylist, done a bit of fashion production, fashion writing, I still work as a costume designer and creative director. I then had to leave all these behind to take an 8 to 5 job. At this point I needed to stay relevant in fashion, and document my fashion journey. This birthed deemako.com
During the good and bad times, I have to say nothing but passion and emails & messages from my followers keep me going.
St.Eve Magazine: If you were to start all over again, what would you do differently?
Dee Mako: I will definitely have taken better quality pictures and thought of a name like deemako.comearlier, it took me three name changes and loosing followers before I finally decided on deemako.com.
St.Eve Magazine: Who is your favourite fashion icon?
Dee Mako: I have a few, Lisa Folawiyo and Solange top the list however. I also like Rihanna’s style sometimes.
St.Eve Magazine: If you had to start your wardrobe from scratch, what 5 things would you go buy straight away?
Dee Mako: Blue or black jeans, a classic white shirt, an outerwear like a blazer or kimono, flats or brogues and a hat or scarf.
