DAY 4 || LITTLE VICTORIES

How do you miss it!
The essence of it all,
The magnitude of what you have,
Against that of your neighbours.

How do you forget,
The day you prayed for it all,
And shed a tear ,
Without any ounce of hope.

How don't you see,
That all you ever wanted,
Prior to now,
Is what you have and more.

How do you forget,
to light a candle,
And maybe buy a cake,
In celebration of your small victories,
Every other day.

Does it even matter,
That breathe you take,
every second.
And the legs you lift,
To cross the dirty potholes.

The hands that type your info,
And the mouth that laughs at memes,
Those eyes that keep stalking,
All the frenemies you keep.
And even that brain,
that remembers the perfect angle,
For you recurring selfies.

How don't you count your little blessings,
this was once a dream,
However random,
You own fell in place.

Hello hypocrite,
That's my new nickname,
I'm also very guilty,
Because even I forget,
To do the same.

Today I enjoy luxury,
That I never saw coming
And sometimes still complain
Without a simple thank you

Enjoy your little victories,
And sometimes say thank you.
If you can light a candle,
on a cake that reads thankful.
Because what you have today,
Is all you really need,
And what you want is just icing,
On the already beautiful cake.

Enjoy the little things,
And remember to smell the roses,
Because you only enjoy the massive victories,
If you notice the little ones.

Like how far you have come,
And the friends you have around you,
And those little sacrifices,
Your family even made.

Don't forget to say thank you,
And maybe even sorry,
For those little victories,
You never did see.

We spend half of our lives hoping and wanting more and sometimes we forget to be thankful for all the little victories that come along the way. It's time to say thank you and bask in the little victories!
(For Oreoluwa for inspiring me always)

  1. This is so apt! We sometimes get lost in the larger picture of life that we forget the little victories. And It is really sad because those little, easy to overlook victories and triumphs are what actually keeps us going. Well said Dee...xxx
