TIPS FOR POSING FOR PICTURES FOR FASHION BLOGGERS

PHOTO || JIDE KOLA +Jidekola Photography

Over the weekend, I worked with yet another amazing photographer, Jide Kolawole of Jidekola Photography, even though we known eachother for years and we had earlier talked about shooting together about a year ago, everything came to birth on Sunday.
the picture above is from one of the shoots and i can't wait to show you more.

Fashion blogging is in no way easy, not one single part of it is and even after the blogging prerequisites have been met, and you are happy with your blog layout, and you have found a way to multitask and balance your time  and you are feeling all creative.
It's time to start taking amazing pictures of your outfits. Posing for pictures can be hard, tiring and frustrating and i have actually seen a lot of bloggers struggle with posing to the extent that you can see it from their pictures.
Today I'm sharing tips that can help you take better pictures if you are an aspiring fashion blogger, a struggling poser or if you just want to take better pictures in general.
I hope you learn a tip or trick.
WORK WITH YOUR BEST SIDE / ASSETS: When it comes to shooting my outfit posts, except I am wearing a full skirt or a flared skirt, i tend to never turn my back or my side to the camera, you all already know that my bum is small and portable..lol, and my boobs on the other hand are more pronounced, so i tend to work with my strengths which is my front view.

So my very first tip is look at your body and work with your best sides, just like Angelina Jolie’s and j.lo’s legs are their selling point, discover yours and that’s what we should see the most so we can be distracted by your pictures and attracted to your post.

This also applies for those with stretch marks, not so portable stomachs to really big backsides, turning and posing should distract us from those parts that are not exactly your best sides, not that we care or judge you but so that you will be extremely happy with your post pictures outcome.

WORK WITH THE OUTFIT DETAILS: If the sleeve, back or trimmings are the oomph of the outfit, then its important that the pictures relay that information very well, so whatever pose you want to do, make sure that detail doesn't go unnoticed.

here
LEAN: on a wall, chair, car, pole or column. Whatever would make you less frigid and more comfortable just lean on it. this is a classic and common pose even internationally as alot of people tend to take pictures in front of graffitis, arts, brick and garage walls or backdrops.
here
TWIRL IF THE OUTFIT IS FLOWY: what’s the point of wearing dancey outfits if you aren't going to let us experience the texture like you do, just by twirling and spinning you can take your basic looks to fun looks and when your looks are fun, your readers enjoy it and even you yourself feel super excited to share your post experience with them.
here

BE ACTIVE: DANCE! JUMP! : Just like twirling, whenever you feel so lost and stuck with poses being or psyching yourself to be active by jumping or dancing might be exactly what you need to put that oomph in your outfit posts. So please and please loosen up and have fun while shooting.

STAND AT ATTENTION: you know that solange’s wedding photograph? The one that broke the internet? Please can you tell me what she did? Well i will help you out, she did nothing. She and a couple of her friends and family stood still like the military, they stood at attention, that’s the oldest pose there is and its still a timeless one. Consider the fact that after all all you really want to share is the outfit details and pictures and standing still does the trick every time and anytime.

UNLOOKING: I have been wondering where the unlooking slang came from but that's the best and most hilarious way to explain this pose of looking unaware. After smiling and looking at the camera severally, this is the right pose to fall back to especially when you want to show the side view of your shoes or your earrings in detail. this pose seems to be one of my favourite.
here
WALKING / CROSS LEG  POSE : Whether its a male fashion blogger or a female, we all love the cross leg-photographer caught me walking unawares pose.
here
LOOSEN UP! PLAY WITH YOUR HAIR & FIND A PLACE FOR YOUR HANDS: Anything that keeps your hands from looking displaced or awkward is good enough for posing. some people tuck their hair in others put them on their waist. the possibilities are endless so have fun.
here
GET A SIGNATURE POSE: I have experimented with so many signature poses from the cross leg pose to the blow a kiss pose to the two hand peace sign post and recently the angelina jolie leg pose. For me the rule is simple, if you feel good and it looks good then its good enough. stick to it for as long as you can sell your confidence and outfit thtough it.

OTHER TIPS THAT CAN HELP YOU LOOK LIKE AN EXPERT INCLUDE:

MIMICKING OTHER BLOGGERS: this is the newest trick in the book, Mide coker is queen of this trick, she does it for fun but she is super contagious, whenever I’m lost for poses, I tend to lean to the side like her and cassie and just mimic some of her mimics also or channel my inner beyonce or rihanna.
A classic Mide Coker Pose originated from Desiree Iyama
