HELLO GUYS!!
Since its becoming a habit to review my hair when or after i take it out to provide for a proper and more detailed review information, i decided to finally share this much anticipated hair review that i will definitely still wear again at least 2/3 times before the year ends.
the hairstylist was my MUM, i wanted to do it myself but it's always nice to have helping hands around.
Hair Style: CROTCHET BRAIDS
Attachment type: Kinky
Colour: Black
Price: N600 per piece
Amount Used: 3 pieces
Stylist Charge: kisses and Hugs and Thank you
Total Cost: 2000
Duration: relatively 1 - 1 & hrs
Overall:
One of the few perks if i may call it that of loving to research and surf the internet is finding new things, a while back i found some amazing pictures of a 'so called' crochet braids and i'm thinking wow...this looks good.
on further research i realize that i could do it myself and as someone that loves to save money especially on weaves and hairdressing/styling cost, it felt like a sign from heaven.
In that very second during the election half days, I ran straight to the market from work to hook myself up with some weaves for this experiment.
I actually wanted something curly and human hair but i couldn't find it so i decided on kinky as an alternative. I bought the blue pack kinky first but the vendor had just one pack so i went further into the market found the green pack brand and bought two of it (note: stick to one brand as kinky braids vary in size).
Later that weekend or so I sat down with my mum and my experiment came to life.
it took about an hour and 30mins to make it and about that same time to loosen as i was bent on preserving my braids (so i didn't cut it with scissors not that i'm that stingy..lol) and watching the escape plan movie.
I had it on for 5 weeks.
PROS:
- No sew or glue required
- Only knoting required don't get why its even called braids
- No stress to scalp
- Can be parted at any side whether left, right or center
- Gives a false illusion that its your real hair especially if its not so full
- Extremely light hair
- Can be braided
- Extremely Affordable
- Amazing Natural hair effect
- Very easy to style
- Pain free unlike my last hairstyle
- Fullness on fleek
- Afrocentric feel
- i would say the length and colours of this hair gave a beautiful effect
- this hair is super big..i liked it
- kept my hair safe and aided its growth
- weave reuseable
CONS:
- Tangles
- If the knots are too tight it might pull your hair and might cause you to lose some of your front hair when styling it or combing it.
- this hair is super big...you might not like that
- you should get help when taking it out cause of the risk of it getting caught or blending in your hair.
NOTE:
- I looped once and none fell off so stick to one loop only
- while making, Put reasonable enough space between each loop to avoid using too much weave.
- I occasionally trimmed the ends with a scissors after running my hand through it to detangle the knotted parts.
- I oiled my fronts as much as i could to help it grow and it did grow
- I had this hairstyle for about five weeks and it could have stayed longer.
As usual everyone thought I was mixed race... just wondering what is with the mixed race questions i keep getting...from being south african, gambian to jamaican.
would i do it again? At Least 3 more times before the year run's out with other weaves.
Since I didn't get enough pictures for a detailed tutorial, I decided to share links to tutorials on how to make this hair since my pictures were taken with my phone and weren't as clear.
you can check ALICE's and JENNIFER's review.
I used a hairpin like Jennifer as opposed to the crochet needle by Alice.

And I was thinking of doing crochet braids again soon before I read this post. I am so doing it. The fact that you can do it yourself just makes it one of the best and most affordable style options.
ReplyDeleteYou really rocked this style beautifully!

Oh, wow! I didn't know that's how it's done. Lovely do.
ReplyDeleteLucky you, my mom can't even bother with me except to help plait the "al-back', shikena.
ReplyDeleteI did crotchet braids last year and the "all back" I did made it look quite scanty. I used two packs of Noble Natural Braid but I could've used more. Crotchet braids is still on my mind but with a curly extention, I'm tired of kinky hair and its wahala.

i just took off kinky braids using curly extensions.
ReplyDeletei had it on for just a week.
it was terrible to say the least.. i couldnt even take any pictures.
Crochet braids look so good on people in pictures... ive just had series of unfortunate event/hairstylists.
Amazing Post!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting!
Great Pics!!!
