NATURAL HAIR STYLING TIPS WITH ELENA of NATURAL HAIR ROCKS

Hair Style: CROTCHET BRAIDS
Stylist Charge: N3000***

Hello to you and happy friday!

Today I will be vacating my writer's seat for Elena of Natural hair rocks.
She is a natural hair stylist and consultant and she made the crotchet hair I have on above.
she was very particular and cautious when styling my hair and I just loved that my edges were safe with the way she left some hair in front so I asked her if she would be kind enough to share a few related tips.
Enjoy below.

How to maintain your Natural hair before crotchet installation:

It's very important your Natural hair is in a good state before you install a protective styling.
Inasmuch as protective styling,is supposed to help retain length.
Poor maintenance can lead to breakage.

  • Wash: Be sure your hair is properly washed. You can make use of a sulfate free shampoo, conditioner wash(co-wash) or vinegar clarifying rinse.
  • Condition: It's very important to condition your hair as it helps retain moisture.
  • Deep condition: This process usually lasts for 30mins/1hour.You can make use of a steam cap as this retains intensive moisture and strengthens the hair.
After deep conditioning;
  •  Seal in with hair oils/butter: If you have excessive breakage, you might have to infuse the protein treatment to your regimen.

How to maintain your Natural hair whilst wearing a protective styling (crochet):

A lot of people tend to neglect their natural hair whilst on protect styling and it's totally not advisable. Whatever protective styling you're wearing, it's advisable you wear for 8 weeks max.

The most important thing for Natural hair is moisture.
Moisture is key to curb breakage. Dry hair breaks so it's very necessary to keep your hair moisturised.

For this,
  • You'd need a daily hair spritz that's a combination of leave in conditioner, water, glycerin and any hair oil i.e coconut. All of this should be in a spray bottle and should be used daily on the hair.

Will it penetrate since I'm on Crotchet? Yes it will. When installing crotchet there are cornrows underneath and spaces as well so you can have access to your scalp and Natural hair.

  • Oiling- Your scalp should never be dry, as dry scalp can lead to flakes which most times causes dandruff. It's advisable you oil your scalp daily with any of the hair oils e.g coconut oil, olive oil, avocado et.c are penetrating oils and can be used for this.
  • Satin scarf/pillowcase: It's important you sleep with your satin cap to retain moisture.
