As a Nigerian, you grow up with a lot of slangs around you, some even become part of your language and culture. The Yoruba people are associated with exaggerations that are expressed with a mouth widely open with their constant use of words like arggghhhh, eeehhhnnnn, wooooo and so on.
Shakara is one of those words and it means "Pose". Well to me it does, because a lot of this informal words or slangs have several translations to different people but to me when people tease me and say "your shakara is too much", what I hear is "my posing is too much". My brother on the other hand thinks shakara means being proud in a good way.
thinking and reflecting right now, I guess I had to have liked shakara at a point to want to start a fashion blog.
Enough about the definition and back to the style.
If you are one that doesn't necessarily care about the days attached to wearing natives and you just want to throw on something comfortable no matter the day, or you are one that actually wants native for those days, there is a solution to ready to wear African inspired style.
The great part about the solution is now we don't have to worry about Boda Seun (my ex tailor) or mummy Rita (my recent tailor) and their lack of keeping to time or getting the style right
All we need to do is type shakara.ng into our browsers and choose pieces from affordable styles of our choice.
what do you think about ready to wear Ankara? have you checked out shakara.ng?
P.S: I'm running a giveaway on my instagram @dee_mako, i'm giving out a 10k voucher from shakara.ng so join the fun.

Great look and style. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteAwesome location, love the dress. I actually do like ready to wear Ankara because I think it's more professional. I don't know if that's the right word but most tailors just don't nail it for me.
